White House Announces Virtual Climate Summit

40 Heads of State to attend Earth Day meeting

The White House announced on Wednesday that all 40 heads of state who were invited to join an Earth Day meeting hosted by President Biden have confirmed they would attend. The summit will take place on Thursday and Friday mornings this week, and will cover various topics in the fight to curb the negative effects of climate change including economic solutions, nature-based solutions, and worldwide climate cooperation.

Notable among the attendees are the leaders of some of the largest carbon-producing countries in the world. Both President Putin of Russia and President Xi Jinping have confirmed they will participate in the morning sessions. The hope for the gathering is to prepare for the upcoming United Nations meeting in November. President Biden also committed to slashing U.S. emissions by 50% by 2030 ahead of the gathering.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For understanding and discretion for the president and his Cabinet in addressing climate and environmental issues.
  • For the Lord to give the State Department wisdom on how best to build climate alliances.
  • For the staff at the White House as they work to pull the summit together.
