U.S. Places New Sanctions on Russia

Actions are in response to cyberattacks and election interference.

On Thursday, President Biden announced that new sanctions would be put in place on Russian nationals. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki explained the reasoning for the action saying, “Our objective here is not to escalate, our objective is to impose costs for what we feel are unacceptable actions by the Russian government.” These actions include Russian efforts to undermine American elections and a recent cyber-breach to steal U.S. government secrets.

30 individuals and Russian entities have had their assets frozen, and 10 people from the Russian diplomatic mission have been expelled from the country. President Biden also signed an executive order which authorized the U.S. government to sanction any sector of the Russian economy and block all U.S. banks from purchasing Russian bonds.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to guide the president’s administration as they seek avenues to prevent foreign threats.
  • That God would help the State Department form strong relationships with other nations.
  • For wisdom for President Biden and his advisors in their responses to Russia.
