Climate Envoy Kerry Meeting Chinese Counterpart

Three days of meetings in Shanghai scheduled.

On Wednesday, U.S. Special Climate Envoy John Kerry is set to arrive in Shanghai for three days of meetings with senior Chinese officials who oversee climate and foreign policy. Mr. Kerry will meet in person with his Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, and they are scheduled to conduct a video call with a senior leader on economic and climate change affairs.

Although detailed plans are still being developed, Kerry and Xie are set to discuss creating a new formal mechanism for bilateral engagement on climate matters, as well as supporting developing nations pursuing low-emissions economic growth. At this time when the U.S.-China relationship is one of the most consequential on the globe, Mr. Kerry will be the first senior official of President Biden’s administration to visit China.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For safe travels for Mr. Kerry and those who will accompany him.
  • For the discussions Kerry and Chinese officials will have concerning the matters of carbon emissions and climate.
