Issue 484 – Verse of the Week

April 1st – April 7th, 2021

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. – Psalm 1:3

Deep Roots

Although bamboo is the fastest growing plant on Earth, it looks lazy at first. This is because it has no branches… just lots of deep and wide roots. Once the roots take hold, however, bamboo is capable of surging in growth as much as 48 inches in 24 hours. Today’s verse references being planted like a tree near water—where it will extend its roots deep and wide to establish itself. Psalm 1:2 says how to do that: “His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” The source of your spiritual refreshing and nutrients are found in God’s Word. Make sure you are grounded with deep roots in Scripture so that when your season for fruit-bearing is here, you are ready.
