Senate Confirms Marty Walsh as Labor Secretary

He is the final cabinet secretary to be confirmed.

Marty Walsh, the former Mayor of Boston, was confirmed by the Senate in a 68-29 vote to be the next Secretary of Labor. His confirmation supports the president’s efforts to expand workers’ protection and the country’s organized labor movement.

A former labor leader, Secretary Walsh is likely to have a major impact on U.S. workplace laws and regulations, including vigorous enforcement of occupational safety and health rules, overtime payments, and proper administration of employee benefit plans.

He said that over the last seven years he has proved he can work “across the aisle and get things done while also protecting the worker and I hope to do some of that same stuff in Washington.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Walsh as he begins his tenure as Secretary of Labor.
  • For God to fulfill His purpose through the Labor Department as it implements legislation like the PRO Act in Congress that strengthens labor unions.
  • For the president and his Cabinet to seek God’s wisdom as they craft federal policies.
