Issue 479 – Verse of the Week

February 25th – March 3rd, 2021

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. – Psalm 2:10-11

Discernable Difference

With each new presidential administration, new Congress, and new Supreme Court, the differences in policy, agenda, and priorities seem broad and often feel like they bear little resemblance to each other. The political back and forth of each transfer of power can be disorienting. Though this may feel confusing, there is One whose agenda has not changed, whose plans are constant. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). The next verse brings guidance, “Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.” God’s plans and your prayers—they seem to be connected! As much as any other time in America’s history, now is the time to be in prayer for those in authority, so that you might lead “a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way” (1 Timothy 2:2). And, by the way, this next verse in Timothy says, “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior.” So, raise your voice to the Lord and pray that HIS plans for this nation would be established in the halls of government.
