Congress Holds Candlelit Coronavirus Memorial

Observe moment of silence and listen to hymn to honor those lost.

On Tuesday evening, members of Congress gathered on the steps of the Capitol building to observe a moment of silence for the reported 500,000 Americans who lost their lives to COVID-19. The candlelit vigil was attended by both sides of the aisle. A single voice sang the hymn “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” as representatives stood silently holding candles.

Several members expressed their support for families who had lost someone to the disease. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tweeted, “This evening, I joined my colleagues on the steps of the Capitol for a moment of silence to mourn the 500,000+ American lives we lost to COVID-19. May they rest in peace.” Congress is currently debating the next round of COVID-19 economic relief, with both sides struggling to come to a consensus.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would be near to those who are mourning the loss of loved ones to the pandemic.
  • For the Lord to guide Congress on the best route forward with the next round of stimulus payments.
  • That God would guide U.S. officials to effectively guide the nation out of the pandemic.
