Capitol Police Chief Requests Permanent Fencing

Also seeking nearby back-up forces.

Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman has called for the United States Capitol to have permanent fencing and back-up security to prevent more civil unrest.

“In light of recent events, I can unequivocally say that the vast improvements to the physical security infrastructure must be made to include permanent fencing and the availability of ready back-up forces in close proximity to the Capitol,” the acting chief stated.

A review of the events of January 6 at the Capitol has been ongoing by the Capitol Police and others. A seven-foot security fence was erected the day after the Capitol was entered by demonstrators.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said she did not want fencing or the National Guard troops to become a “long-term fixture” in the city.

Pittman became acting police chief for the Capitol two days after the previous chief stepped down following the events of January 6th. Security in the city will continue to remain high with the upcoming impeachment trial of President Trump in the Senate.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. officials who are considering the request for permanent fencing around the Capitol.
  • For the Capitol Police and the acting chief as they seek to keep Capitol Hill secure.
  • For individuals who protest to do so in a peaceful and law-abiding manner.
