Returning to Obama-era initiatives.
On Thursday, President Biden signed two executive orders instructing federal agencies to create a special enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) from February until May.
He also formally reversed the Mexico City Policy, which will fund abortions overseas with American tax dollars. The Mexico City Policy, first enacted under President Ronald Reagan, is intended to protect taxpayers from paying for abortions abroad. President Trump reinstated the measure early in his presidency. The current administration says it is supporting “sexual and reproductive rights” for women “in the United States as well as globally.”
“There is nothing new here,” the president said at the signing. “We are… restoring the Affordable Care Act and the expansions to Medicaid.” He added that “the time to extend aid and access is now in the middle of the COVID crisis.”
