You have a responsibility
Isaiah 49:6 – I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.
“Hold up the light / Save the world from darkness / Hold up the light / Won’t you please America / It’s time for all of us / Who claim in God we trust / to take a stand/ Let our voice be heard / Across the nation/ To every man.” Those are a few of the lyrics from “Hold Up the Light” by BeBe and CeCe Williams, sung poignantly by the late Whitney Houston. Their message concerned the abhorrent use of drugs; but whatever the subject, it could just as well apply to the nation’s woes today.
America is in need of healing. Physical, emotional, economic, and spiritual wounds have left many feeling alone and hopeless. Individually, they are the microcosm that represent the pains of the entire nation.
There is another song you may have heard: “The whole world is lost in the darkness of sin / The Light of the World is Jesus / Like sunshine at noonday, His glory shone in / The Light of the World is Jesus! / Come to the Light, ‘tis shining for thee / Sweetly the Light has dawned upon me / Once I was blind but now I can see / The Light of the World is Jesus.”
Light reveals. Light disinfects. Light restores. The healing of the nation requires the Light of the World. You hold Him and He has made you light and salt. It’s time to hold up that Light. “The people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned” (Matthew 4:16).
Pray With Us
Holy God, Darkness does indeed cover much of the Earth today. The Light You have given us in Jesus seems to have been purposely dimmed by many in America. It is easy to get discouraged. You have not left the world without a witness, and I thank You for redeeming me through Jesus Christ. Be with me as I stand for You and for Light to the darkness, according to Your will for me, for I ask it in the Name of my Savior, Amen.
- Prayerfully thank God for Jesus as the Light of the World and the only true Redeemer for humankind.
- Pray that God will give you opportunities to share the gospel and your testimony with others.
- Pray for God to bring more workers to the harvest and bring more people to faith in Jesus Christ.
- Pray that God will help the light of Christ that is within you shine brightly into the dark places.
- Pray that God would empower you to be ready to share the Lord with anyone who needs Him that God places in your path.
