USS Nimitz Ordered Back to Persian Gulf

Assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists has stirred revenge threats.

The Pentagon announced Saturday that it has sent the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier back to the Middle East. It cited the drawdown of U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, the symbol of American might could well prove a deterrent to any aggression from Iran.

The “architect” of Iran’s nuclear programs was killed in an apparent assassination earlier this week. Iran’s supreme leader has vowed to retaliate with “definitive punishment” against Israel. It claims Israel’s Mossad is responsible for the scientist’s death.

Iran’s president Hassam Rouhani said, “We will respond to the assassination… in a proper time. The Iranian nation is smarter than falling into the trap of the Zionists. They are thinking to create chaos.”

The Pentagon announced the return of the Nimitz to the Persian Gulf just hours after reports of the roadside military-style attack that killed the nuclear scientist.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has not commented on the attack.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials safeguarding against the increased tensions in the Middle East.
  • For the protection of America’s military personnel aboard the USS Nimitz and others on the ground and in the air in the region.
