Always Accessible

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10

There were six of them. The Lord provided cities of refuge for the person who killed another without intent. They were cities to which the person could flee – where no avenger could have retribution until the killer could stand in judgment. But he had to run quickly to the city in order to be safe.

Do you realize the true blessing as a believer in Jesus Christ? The Lord is your refuge, a strong tower to which you can run for safety! The name of the Lord, His titles, His attributes, and His covenant promises establish the foundation for your security. When you “cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:12), you can run quickly to your Heavenly Father who will protect and guide you on your way.

The righteous person will run to the Lord in prayer. The sanctuary of God is accessible without having to flee to a distant city for its protection. Depending on Him and having a heart devoted to obeying God rather than the enticements of the world will place you in the relationship that frees you to “run” to Him any time of the day or night. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). You will be safely sheltered in Him.

There will always be trials to face and difficulties the enemy will use to try to get you to wander from the Lord. But there will also be blessings from God beyond measure. Run to Him in prayer. Seek His guidance for yourself, as well as for those who serve in government. Recognize and be blessed by His goodness.

Recommended for further reading: Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,
    a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
    though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam,
    though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;
    God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;
    he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Come, behold the works of the Lord,
    how he has brought desolations on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
    he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the chariots with fire.
10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth!”
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
