Issue 463

November 5th – November 11th, 2020

PRAY FOR PRESIDENT TRUMP AND HIS ADMINISTRATION

President Trump’s plan to distribute $200 drug discount cards to all Medicare recipients remains in limbo after officials missed an earlier goal of sending out millions of announcement letters, and concerns about the legality and logistics continue.

President Trump signed an executive order to protect Pennsylvania fracking and block any effort to undermine energy production there, saying fracking affects the economy and trade and the state would suffer if the technique for extracting gas and oil was eliminated.

Pray for President Trump and his family and staff to have health and energy restored after months of vigorous campaigning.

PRAY FOR OUR CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS

Partisan politics and stalled negotiations over another COVID-19 relief bill are impeding progress toward much-needed infrastructure bills, Representative Rodney Davis of Illinois, ranking member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee on highways and transit, said.

A bipartisan bill was introduced in the Senate that would expand the Department of Homeland Security’s visa screening processes, with the goal of rooting out potential terrorists from among foreign visitors.

Pray for the House and Senate as they continue their work over the next months until the new Congress is installed.

PRAY FOR OUR JUDICIARY

An El Paso, Texas, county judge ordered the shutdown of non-essential businesses there for two weeks after he said data showed the COVID-19 hospitalization rate hit 44 percent, a level of infection not before seen.

The federal judge presiding over the Justice Department’s antitrust case against Google held a first scheduled hearing with each party wanting to secure more information and files from the other.

Pray for judges across America who may be presented with legal challenges to resolve regarding the election.

CURRENT EVENTS

WARS AND TERRORISM

Security threats have been made against top Pentagon authorities, not only when traveling outside the U.S. but when on American soil, by individuals seeking revenge for the killing of Iranian General Solemani.

French President Emmanuel Macron, saying that “France is under attack,” bolstered security in schools and religious sites after three churchgoers were killed, including one woman reportedly decapitated, in an Islamist terror knife attack in the southern city of Nice.

Pray for the safety of American military officials, diplomats, and others who are traveling or doing business abroad.

FOREIGN INTERESTS AND CONFLICTS

Concerns have been raised in the Defense Department over the recent Air Force purchase of dozens of Chinese-made drones to use for “testing and training,” as lawmakers consider the use of Chinese technology a potential threat to national security.

U.S. forces including Navy SEAL Team 6 rescued an American, who had been kidnapped by armed men, in an operation in northern Nigeria that is believed to have killed several of his captors

Pray about the escalating tensions between the U.S. and China, and for other U.S. relationships in Asia.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

Israel’s Intelligence Minister Eli Cohen said implementing further normalization deals, such as with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, could depend on the next U.S. president displaying continued “resolve” against Iran.

American citizens born in Jerusalem will now be able to list Israel as their country of birth, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said, shifting U.S. policy in favor of recognizing their Israeli sovereignty over the holy city. Previously, they could list Jerusalem as the country.

Pray for President Trump and his “peace” team as they continue to work out normalizations between Israel and its Arab neighbors.

THE ECONOMY

Manufacturing activity accelerated more than expected in October with new orders jumping to their highest level in nearly 17 years amid a shift in spending toward goods like motor vehicles as the pandemic drags on.

Consumer spending rose more than anticipated in September, but decreasing benefits for millions of unemployed Americans, cooling temperatures, and a resurgence in COVID-19 cases across the nation may put a crimp in fourth-quarter spending.

Pray for an end to the effects of the coronavirus on the economy through the introduction of additional treatments and the vaccines.

ACROSS THE STATES

West Virginia’s secretary of state assured voters that election officials have been watching for interference by foreign governments but that no schemes to interfere have been detected in the state.

Voters in Louisiana were asked to weigh in on a proposed state constitutional amendment that would prevent state courts from declaring abortion restrictions unconstitutional at the state level.

Pray for calm in the streets of America’s cities, and for law enforcement personnel when unrest is handled.

VERSE OF THE WEEK

The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. – 1 Peter 3:12
