We Shall Do Valiantly

Psalm 60:12 – With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.

Doesn’t it seem like the country can’t catch a break recently? Have you found yourself asking the question, “What next?” or thinking, “What else could possibly go wrong this year?” The Israelites faced their own fair share of problems throughout the Old Testament. David chose to write Psalm 60 to teach the people how to react in times of crisis.

During the time that Psalm 60 was written, the Israelites were at war in the northern part of the country. Another neighboring enemy country attacked the southern part of Israel. With the shock and confusion of a tragedy in Israel, King David wrote the following words: “With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.”

David knew that there was still great work to be done before they would see victory. But he also knew that as long as God was on their side, Israel would indeed triumph over their enemies. God had not abandoned them. And while it was right for them to lament and mourn the tragedy of what had happened to them, their hope endured. David chose to lead his people to draw strength from God in order to press forward toward the task God had given them.

What task has God given you to press on toward today, in the midst of a difficult year? Have you chosen to sit back and wait for God to do all the work, or are you ready to stand and do the work God is leading you to do?

Pray With Us

Almighty God, it is so difficult to press forward these days. With the country facing what feels like defeat after defeat, it would be so easy for me to give up. God, I ask that You give me the strength to continue moving forward. Make Your path known to me, that I may follow it to the best of my abilities. Thank You that the victory doesn’t rest in my hands, but in Yours. I know that you have already overcome every obstacle, and I praise You for the victory we will eventually see.

Amen.
