Elusive Confidence

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace. – Hebrews 4:16

Confidence sometimes seems elusive. Whether trying out a new skill, speaking in front of a group, or meeting the in-laws, confidence may be hard to come by. Then to think of “drawing near to the throne of grace with confidence“ as it says in today’s verse, boggles the mind. When Moses wanted to see God, he couldn’t see Him face to face, in His glory, or Moses would die (Exodus 33:20). When Solomon dedicated the temple, God’s cloud of glory came in and the priests couldn’t stand (1 Kings 8:11). When Jesus spoke to Paul in a bright light, Paul fell to the ground and was blinded (Acts 9:8).

Yet the writer of Hebrews assures you that you can confidently go near the throne of grace to “receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” How can that be? The believer’s confidence is in the redemptive work of Christ alone. You have not earned this freedom. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). What an awesome privilege believers have to come to the Father boldly and confidently in Christ!

Do not take it lightly. Prioritize your time with Him. Throughout history, there have been many troubles in the United States and the Lord has been merciful through them all. God’s Word assures believers they can receive mercy and grace to help in time of need. The United States currently has great need for His help. Go to the Father with confidence, in Christ, on behalf of this country, putting your faith, trust, and hope in Him.

Today’s Verse: Hebrews 4:16

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
