Secretary Pompeo Visits Nation of Guyana

Hopes strengthened ties will shore up support on Venezuela.

Late last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to the small country of Guyana to meet with its new leader, President Irfaan Ali. They signed a number of agreements promising to advance mutual investments and coordinate against maritime drug trafficking between the two countries.

The meeting reflects the shared desire of both the United States and Guyana to shore up support on the political crisis in Venezuela, which shares a border with Guyana. “We support the need for free and fair elections in our hemisphere,” President Ali said. “With urgency, we believe that democratic values and principles should be respected in Venezuela as well.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That Secretary Pompeo would be led by the Lord’s wisdom.
  • For the Department of State as they coordinate with allies of the United States.
  • That the United States’ relationship with the country of Guyana would be bolstered after this meeting.
