Supersize Your Faith

The apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith!’ – Luke 17:5

A 2004 documentary film follows a 30-day period during which the film’s subject ate only at McDonald’s. Three times a day, he would eat there, eventually eating every item on the menu at least one time. And whenever it was offered to him, he was required to Supersize his meal, but he could not request the extra size on his own.  The documentary, called “Supersize Me,” showed him gaining 24 pounds, increasing his cholesterol, experiencing mood swings, all while fat accumulated in his liver. It took him fourteen months to lose what he had gained in one. Six weeks after the film’s debut, McDonald’s discontinued its supersize portions.

God is not asking you to increase your diet of fast food; but instead increase your daily intake of His Word. When a “baby” in your Christian walk, He wants you to “long for the pure spiritual milk” that is found in the Bible (1 Peter 2:2). As you mature, like a person, you ought to be taking in more solid food, studying to be able to teach others (Hebrews 5:12), an admonishment Paul also gave to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 3:2).  Supersizing your intake of God’s Word nourishes your soul.

Take the time in your daily diet of Bible reading to dive into what the Lord is telling you. Be prepared to share your faith with others. Pray for God’s truth to prevail across the nation. “Thy Word is truth” (John 17:17).

Blessed is the man
    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
    and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.
