The Way

I have chosen the way of faithfulness. – Psalm 119:30

Did you know that Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses and it’s all about God’s law? In today’s verse, the Psalmist makes a choice, a conscious decision, the way of faithfulness. Further down in verse 33, he elaborates on the way of faithfulness, “Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes: and I will keep it to the end.” His determination is to follow God for the rest of his life. Through wars and peace, famines and plenty, loneliness and love, he will be faithful to God.

Have you made that choice? If you did, you yielded yourself to the work of the Holy Spirit. He sealed you with His promise (Ephesians 1:13). When Jesus asked the disciples if they would turn away from Him, like some had, Peter answered, “Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” John 6:68.

Have you chosen the way of faithfulness? Have you determined to live for Him no matter what? The lyrics of a familiar hymn says, “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back. Though none go with me, still I will follow.” If you don’t have this confidence, ask Jesus to do this work in your heart. Or if you know someone close to you who seems to waver in their faith, pray that they will choose faithfulness to the Lord. Pray for the leaders and citizens of this nation to have open eyes and ears when it comes to choosing Jesus, the only way to the Heavenly Father.

I set your rules before me.

As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are but the beginning of the birth pains.

“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
