Psalm 78:3-4 – Things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us, we will not hide them from our children, but tell to the coming generation, the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.
The classical poet Virgil wrote, “As the twig is bent, so the tree inclines.” Ignatius Loyola is credited with saying, “Give me the child for the first seven years and I will give you the man.” Russia’s Communist leader Nikita Khrushchev once said, “We will take America without firing a shot. We will bury you! We can’t expect the American people to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have communism. We do not have to invade the U.S. We will destroy you from within.” A January 2020 article in the Washington Times headlines “socialists are coming for your children.”
It is important for parents and grandparents to teach children values of the family while they are young. Just as important is not to neglect their spiritual development. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” That’s a promise from God!
Notch kids, boomers, Gen X, Millennials, Gen Z, or whatever group you are part of, you have a responsibility to the coming generation. If not you, who? If not now, when? How soon will it be too late?

Merciful Heavenly Father, I confess that in some respects I feel like I have “passed the torch” to the next generation when it comes to teaching children. But from the verbiage of today’s verses, I see the importance of continuing the spiritual legacy that has come before me. There is a heritage each of us has been given, and it is an inheritance we must pass along to our children and our children’s children. Help me not to fail in this. Help me show them the importance of faith in You, and then to teach them also of the marvelous history of our great nation that has been blessed by You. In Jesus’ Name,
