Determined

What does your face reveal?

Isaiah 50:7 – But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.

“Setting your face like a flint” is a figure of speech the prophet Isaiah used to describe unwavering determination and perseverance. Prophetically, he was speaking of Messiah knowing what was before him. Later in Luke, Jesus would say he had “set his face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9;51).

Staying on the path Christ has outlined for you requires setting your own face like flint.  The Apostle Paul says to keep your eyes on the prize as you run the race of faith (1 Corinthians 9:24-27).

You have been given a mission by God.  C. H. Spurgeon urged that you meet it with steadfast determination. “My great object is to lead you to love Him who so loved you that He set His face like a flint in His determination to save you. O ye redeemed ones, on whose behalf this strong resolve was made—ye who have been bought by the precious blood of this steadfast, resolute Redeemer, come and think awhile of Him, that your hearts may burn within you, and that your faces may be set like flints to live and die for him who lived and died for you.”

Does your face reveal the joy of knowing Jesus, and your courage and determination to live for Him and for the Gospel during this season of such turmoil?

Pray With Us

Heavenly Father, You are convicting me of what is right and not right in the policies being put forth by political candidates this year. Help me be sufficiently grounded in Your Word that I can have both the courage and the determination to stand for You and for righteousness when in discussions with others. Let me be patient and kind, but “with my face set like a flint” so that I am unmovable in saying what Your Word tells me. Guide me when and where to speak up, and give me words through the grace of Your Holy Spirit in me,

Amen.
