Friends and Acquaintances

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things.  – John 14:26

What is a single word you could use to describe a friend of a friend? It’s a hard question, right?  If you’ve met that person you could call them a “mutual” acquaintance but there is no real English word accurately describing the connection for a friend of a friend.

As Jesus was leaving His disciples on Earth, they were understandably distressed. How could they continue without Him? He was their Master, Savior and Leader. Yet He promised to send them “a Helper,” someone sufficient to assist in carrying on their work. You can imagine more than one of them thought… we don’t need a helper, we need You!

That thought vanished as they became acquainted with the beautiful Spirit of God Jesus introduced them to. They found He is an amazing life guide and heart companion. He answers questions with Truth; in fact, He is called “the Spirit of Truth” many times in Scripture. The Holy Spirit gives gifts like wisdom and peace. He reminds the saints of Jesus’ words giving revelation and clarity in study of the Scriptures. He is the power source for believers to do the Father’s will, overcoming temptation and sharing the Gospel. Yes, the Helper Jesus gave His followers is much more than a friend of a friend. How well do you know Him?

Pray for believers across America today to open their life and fully embrace the leading of the Holy Spirit. Ask that those in leadership positions both in church and government will avail themselves of His wisdom. Thank God for His amazing acquaintance.

Today’s Verse: John 14:26

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; 12 or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
