God’s Standards

We may be missing out on God’s best for America.

Proverbs 14:34 – Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

Because he prayed, King Solomon was given a wise and discerning mind for ruling over the people of Israel. His wisdom was tested when he was confronted by two women claiming the motherhood of the same child. You will remember that he instructed the child be cut in two, giving half to each woman. When one woman protested, King Solomon wisely discerned that she was the child’s mother. The people were in awe of the king “because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.” You can read the account in 1 Kings 3.

God expects righteousness out of His people.  Righteousness and justice are inextricably linked. Amos 5:24 says, “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an over-flowing stream.” That, incidentally, was a verse often quoted by The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King. God desires justice and righteousness for the people’s own sake…that their nation would be a beacon of light for the world, and that the people would live in peace.

Ask God to give you a discerning mind and heart that is set on both justice and righteousness. Pray that the election this year will give America leaders who understand and lead according to God’s standards, bringing a blessing to this great nation.

Pray With Us

Almighty and All-Wise God, I know that wisdom comes from You and that Your wisdom gift is pure and full of mercy. As America looks forward to the election of those who will lead us, give to me, and to my brothers and sisters in the faith, Your wisdom to discern the persons You would have us give our votes to elect. I ask, Lord, that the values of justice and righteousness would once again be a marker that sets this nation apart from so many others. Be in our thoughts, I pray. in Jesus Name,

Amen.
