Be Happy

Proverbs 16:20 – Whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he.  (NKJV)

There is a little song the children sing in Sunday School. “Happiness is to know the Savior, living a life within his favor, having a change in my behavior, happiness is the Lord.”

Psychologists say there is a science to being happy. There are three main theories that most researchers are gravitating toward. One is that freedom of choice brings happiness, particularly when one chooses wisely. This theory is often measured by degrees.  A second is a self-determination theory, through which, in your own self-motivation, you can determine your own happiness. This theory often does not account on external influences as a factor to a happy life. A third is the positive psychology theory where if you have a purpose in your life and good relations with others, and you think you are happy, then you probably are.

It may be best to stick with what the children sing. Happiness, and the even deeper joy, comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ, and a reliance upon knowing that, whatever happens, He is in control and you can absent yourself from fear with gratitude in your heart…generating happiness!

Pray With Us

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you that in You and being cloaked in Your love, I can be joyful. As I measure my gratitude for all You have done for me, a happy smile crosses my face. Thank you that it isn’t necessary to try to work through all manner of psychological theories to experience the gift of Your love and grace. Forgive me for the moments when I forget and allow fear to overwhelm me. Happiness truly is knowing You and Your beloved Son, Jesus, in whose Name I pray,

Amen.
