Pass Through the Waters

 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. – Isaiah 43:2

Think today about a river. It can run swiftly careening over rocks and falls, or its waters can be a winding stream gently flowing with barely a ripple breaking the surface. Waters can be clear and shallow, or they can be muddy giving no sense of its depth.

And so it is with the trials and cares of this world. At times they are like a small shallow stream easily crossed, but other times, a problem can come barreling toward you like a wall of water in a flooded plain. As you see fish in a clear pond, maybe the end of your dilemma is in sight. But at times the burden will be so difficult that the waters will be muddy; you will have no sense when this hardship will end.

No matter the scope of the issues that assail you, your passage through them will be better handled with the Lord by your side. He will be your Comfort, your Helper, your Guide, your Strength, your Deliverer. Today’s verse is a reminder: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you”… not part of the way, not some of the time, but constantly, every minute. He is the friend that will never leave your side.

So, as you and this nation pass through the rough waters that were wrought by civil unrest or the COVID-19 virus, know that God can be trusted to walk beside you. He is ever sovereign and will work all things for good (Romans 8:28). Pray for His leading in your home, as well as in all branches of government. May the flood waters recede and God’s hand be upon this nation for good.

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
    and the flame shall not consume you.

But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
    and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
I give Egypt as your ransom,
    Cush and Seba in exchange for you.

10 “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
    “and my servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know and believe me
    and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
    nor shall there be any after me.
11 I, I am the Lord,
    and besides me there is no savior.
