A Firm Heart

Psalm 112:7 – He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord.

Bad news is everywhere. Sometimes it is difficult to find news that is good, kind, trustworthy, honest, dependable, valuable or uplifting.  God does not want you to react with fear or any other negative emotion at news that isn’t good. Time and again, His Word tells you not to worry, but trust in Him.

If you fill your heart with the things of Philippians 4:8, “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” If you have this good news in your heart and mind, even the bad news will not affect you. Your heart is solidly fixed on the things of God.

Walk by faith in the Everlasting God, not by sight (or by news reports).  As you are fixed and established in Him, your faith will be like a beacon of light to others, giving you an opportunity to tell them of the hope that you have in Jesus Christ.  Try it!

Pray With Us

Lord God, I just have to turn it off—the news that seeps in through every crevice of my mind, that the evil one would use to disrupt me and my faith in You. Rather, I turn to You and to Your Word. Let me be like that tree in Psalm 1, secure in You and in Your Word, so that the storms of life cannot tear me from being grounded in You. You are the Source of all that is good, and I love You, Lord. In Jesus Name.

Amen.
