U.S. Navy Veteran Freed from Iranian Captivity

Returns to the U.S. after two years of imprisonment.

On Thursday the State Department announced that Michael White, an American Navy veteran, had been released from his two-year-long captivity in Iran. Mr. White was flown from Tehran to Zurich where he was met by U.S. Special Envoy to Iran Brian Hook. The release was due to an agreed upon sentencing decision regarding Iranian-American dermatologist Matteo Taerri, who was charged with violating U.S. sanctions on Iran.

President Trump praised the return on Twitter and said, “I will never stop working to secure the release of all Americans held hostage overseas!” Javad Zarif the Iranian foreign minister called for more such deals in the future, saying that these sorts of deals could apply to all prisoners. At this time, the family of Michael White is simply thankful that their “nightmare is over.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would continue to use the State Department to bring imprisoned Americans home.
  • For God to use President Trump to open doors of communications with nations holding U.S. citizens.
  • For Envoy Hook to form strong ties between the U.S. and Iran for future cooperation.
