Secretary Bernhardt Announces Battlefield Protections

Funding will allow ten states to preserve historic sites.

While on a visit to the Gettysburg National Military Park last week, Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt announced that the Interior Department had apportioned $3 million in grants to state and local governments to preserve historic battlefields around the nation. Ten states will receive funding to protect areas of historical significance, and the state of Pennsylvania was awarded over $500,000 for expanding land connected to one of their sites.

According to Secretary Bernhardt, “Battlefields such as Gettysburg are sacred sites where Americans gave the last full measure of devotion. These grants enable us to partner with communities and organizations to preserve these places and connect visitors with their historical importance.” Since 2017, over $47 million has been awarded by the Interior Department to preserve nationally significant battlegrounds.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would use Secretary Bernhardt to lead the Interior Department effectively.
  • That the Interior Department would be used by God to preserve the memory of those who died for our nation.
  • That the Interior Department would be good stewards of the lands entrusted to it.
