Division Problems

I will give them one heart and one way… for their own good and the good of their children after them. – Jeremiah 32:39

Imagine you have two pizzas and divide them evenly among zero friends… how many people are having a good time at your party? Zero! Calculus aside, dividing by zero is pointless, yet division over nothing is one of the enemy’s effective tools for causing pain in the world.

In the Old Testament, the prophet Jeremiah speaks for God when he describes the blessing and beauty of unity in relationships, first between God and mankind, then between God and the nations. Further, in the New Testament, the Apostle Paul expands on that understanding calling followers of Christ to personally embrace “the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace… according to the measure of Christ’s gift” (Ephesians 4:3). Paul reminds believers that the Kingdom of God is greater as a unified body. While there is rarely uniformity, meaning everyone looks the same, there is always unity even in great diversity when Christ is brought to the forefront and the Spirit is invited to bring harmony of purpose. Unity among believers is the evidence of God’s blessing and presence. In essence, when Christ is put in charge, everyone at the party gets a slice of the pie!

Today, pray for America’s leaders not to fall prey to the enemy’s strategy to create chaos through angry factions and prideful splinters in their ranks.  Ask God to bless the nation with decision makers willing to adopt a humble Spirit of co-operation. Your faithful prayers are critical in ending harmful division and multiplying blessing in America.

Today’s Verse: Jeremiah 32:39

I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their own good and the good of their children after them.

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
