Cleaning House

Deuteronomy 10:14 – Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it.

In an effort to make the best of things when staying safe at home, some are overcoming “cabin fever” with new housecleaning chores. Clearing out the pantry from foods with expired dates on them, refolding sheets and towels in the linen cupboard and stacking them neatly, one even said she cleaned her kitchen ceiling from the time when her husband threw a spaghetti noodle into the air just to see if it would stick. Gardening, mending, organizing tools in the garage, repairing something broken—so many of the things that have been put off for another time are finding that this is the time.

A recent CNN report revealed that satellite images are showing pollution on the decline across the Earth as millions of people are kept from work, school, and public places. Over America, less nitrogen dioxide over parts of the U.S. which comes mostly from the burning of fuel and forms of vehicle emissions, are far less than they were a year ago.  NASA and other space agencies show dramatic declines in those gases across Europe and Asia also.

One pastor has suggested that God is using this opportunity to “clean the Earth” to give His people safer air quality. Psalm 65:5-8 says, “By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and the farthest seas; the one who by his strength established the mountains, being girded with might; who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, the tumult of the peoples, so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe of your signs.”

Pray With Us

Heavenly Father, You indeed are Lord of all of Your Creation. You have shown Your mighty power across eons of time, and through recorded history, Your goodness and grace have also been revealed.  All that You do, Lord, causes me to bend my knees in awe to You and Your glory. That You are using this time to give Your Earth a good “scrubbing” of the air is a wonder I wouldn’t have considered. I thank You that, even in these times when things are so bleak, that we find reason to praise You.

Amen.
