Administration Announces Electronic Health Record Rules

HHS seeks to set standards for information sharing

The Department of Health and Human Services announced that new rules were being put in place and aimed at providing Americans with electronic health records that will be a part of a national database. Currently, medical records are contained within various hospital systems and often are unable to be shared with other institutions. Most records are still transferred through physical documents or external storage devices.

While complex, the rules will require hospitals and other medical groups to end practices that intentionally make it difficult or impossible to transfer information. The rules will also require the information to be available on smartphones. HHS will also push for strong patient privacy moving into the future to assure that the ease of access does not compromise the security of American’s information.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would use HHS to improve the health outcomes of all Americans
  • For Secretary Azar to effectively lead HHS’ efforts to increase data access.
  • For the Trump Administration to be guided on the best rules to put into place to improve Americans’ health.
