The Battlefield of Your Mind

Take every thought captive to obey Christ. – 2 Corinthians 10:5

Sadly, American Christians are living in a time when evil is sweeping society—immorality, profanity, violence. The ethics of the past along with the morals and teachings of the Bible are contradicted and opposed on many fronts.  Just as sadly, many Christians are not anchored, like ships that are being carried away on a tide. They may not be consciously rejecting or resisting the drift of the new godlessness, but they are conforming to their environment.

But God has a plan for you: Resist! Resist the arguments and ideas of the world that contradict the Word of God. But, caution. In order to know what to resist, you must know what God’s Word says! In fact, the full text of today’s verse says, “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”

In numerous Bible passages, it becomes evident that the Christian is at war—and the battlefield that the enemy has chosen is the battlefield of your mind. You are told to put on Gods’ armor in Ephesians 6, and to submit to God and resist the devil (James 4:7). Most importantly, you are assured that God is working for you (2 Thessalonians 3:3), to give you power and strength (2 Chronicles 20:15), and that He is your ultimate rescuer (Colossians 1:13).

Remember, when you belong to Christ, the enemy never has the final word over your life. You are secure in the mighty hands of God. Spend time with Him in prayer and in His Word, so that the “lofty ideas” of the world have no enticement for you.

Intercede today for America’s military leaders to also find courage and victory in a relationship with Jesus.

I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away!— I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh. For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

Look at what is before your eyes. If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s, let him remind himself that just as he is Christ’s, so also are we.
