Mind Renewal

Be renewed in the spirit of your minds. – Ephesians 4:23

You may have heard, “Values are caught, not taught.” This is true; however, your actions begin in your thinking. Today’s verse encourages you to be renewed in your mind. In Roman’s 12:2, Paul says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

The longer you are a Christian, the more you realize this renewal must take place every day. Just as you don’t go for long periods without eating, it’s important to consume daily spiritual meals by reading your Bible and praying, lest you forget what those good, acceptable and perfect things within the will of God are.

God says through the prophet Isaiah, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9). He also says, “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11). Paul says, “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Sprit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26). By studying the Scriptures, you can be assured that you are praying according to God’s will as you intercede for the country, leaders and citizens. Jesus says, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith” (Matthew 21:22).

26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
