This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night. – Joshua 1:8

What is one of your most memorable messed up texts from last year? Did you accidently say “slug ya” instead of “love ya” or “I moose you” rather than “I miss you?” While mistyped texts are amusing, they point to a larger issue in communication: without careful attention, messages get muddled!

God has been composing a love letter to you since the beginning of time. Oral history passed stories across the generations until writing systems were available to put them into print. Miracles surround the delivery of God’s Word as it has come through time to be recorded and canonized as scripture. Today, you enjoy the results of centuries of work and sacrifice giving you the Holy Bible, a complete book you can trust.

If you desire to know what God has to say to you, then study your Bible.  Before you begin, open your heart and mind in reverent preparation. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s voice in the stories and words you encounter. Dedicate yourself to listening without preconceived ideas. Be brave when the words lead you to into uncomfortable areas. Quietly ponder and meditate on what you encounter.

Challenge yourself to delve deeper into spiritual discovery in 2020. Pray for America’s decision makers at the highest levels to set aside daily time for learning and reflection. God has promised those who seek Him will find Him, and He isn’t troubled with typos, His word to you will be clear!

Today’s Verse: Joshua 1:8

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

 My son, if you receive my words
    and treasure up my commandments with you,
making your ear attentive to wisdom
    and inclining your heart to understanding;
yes, if you call out for insight
    and raise your voice for understanding,
if you seek it like silver
    and search for it as for hidden treasures,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
    and find the knowledge of God.
