HHS Expands Eligibility for Catastrophic Health Insurance Plans

The move is to help mitigate potential losses of coverage after Congress reduced Medicaid funding.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced that it will expand eligibility for affordable catastrophic health insurance plans under its hardship exemption guidance. Patients who are ineligible for premium tax credit payments or cost-sharing healthcare reductions will now be eligible for catastrophic plans based on need when open enrollment begins on November 1.

President Trump’s administration intends for the expansion of this plan to cover some of the patients who lost healthcare access after Congress reduced certain Medicare and Medicaid funding through the “Big, Beautiful Bill” signed into law this summer.

“By expanding access to catastrophic plans, we are making sure hardworking people who face unexpected hardships can get affordable coverage that protects them from devastating medical costs,” said Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Oz and CMS personnel as they facilitate the coverage of Medicare and Medicaid.
  • For Secretary Kennedy to seek God’s wisdom as he manages the Department of Health and Human Services.
