U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that the Forest Service has proposed the rescission of the 2001 Roadless Rule. U.S. officials highlighted how this federal regulation has hampered efforts to maintain national forests and reduce the risk of wildfires.

Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz said, “For nearly 25 years, the Roadless Rule has frustrated land managers and served as a barrier to action – prohibiting road construction, which has limited wildfire suppression and active forest management.”

Secretary Rollins said, “We are one step closer to common sense management of our national forest lands.“ She added that the move is “a critical step forward in President Trump’s commitment to restoring local decision-making to federal land managers to empower them to do what’s necessary to protect America’s forests and communities from devastating destruction from fires.”

The Forest Service published the notice in the Federal Register on Friday for public comments.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Rollins as she seeks to update federal regulations.
  • For Chief Schultz to be discerning as he attempts to improve national forest management.
  • For President Trump and his Cabinet officials as they endeavor to enhance government efficiency and reduce wasteful spending.
