The move increases financial pressure on Iran’s sanction evasion tactics.
The Treasury Department sanctioned 18 additional entities and individuals last week for aiding Iran in the evasion of previously imposed sanctions. The department said this decision was necessary to continue placing “maximum economic pressure on Iran,” citing restrictions on internet access and mandatory hijab restrictions as the primary reasons for the sanctions.
“As a result of President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign and increasing isolation from the global financial system, the Iranian regime is running out of places to hide,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. “Treasury will continue to disrupt Iran’s schemes aimed at evading our sanctions, block its access to revenue, and starve its weapons programs of capital in order to protect the American people.”

- For discernment for Secretary Bessent as he heads the Treasury Department.
- For U.S. officials as they evaluate the results of financial moves against Iran.
