Today, President Donald Trump will be meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders at the White House. Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz, France’s President Emmanuel Macron, the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are all expected to attend.
The eight world leaders are expected to discuss ways to bring about a peaceful end to the Russian war in Ukraine. President Trump expressed hopefulness about the meeting, “If all works out, we will then schedule a meeting with President Putin. Potentially, millions of people’s lives will be saved.”
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy spoke ahead of Monday’s meeting, “Thank you America, thank you for your support, thank you for this visit.” He added, “Ukraine needs just and lasting peace, and we are working exactly for that.”
