The Bread of Life

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.“ – John 6:35

When Jesus said the words of today’s verse, He confused many people, even His disciples. While they took His words literally, Jesus was, of course, speaking figuratively. People must each accept Jesus as their savior and follow His teachings in order to spiritually thrive and receive eternal life. They will no longer hunger and thirst spiritually but be satisfied and fulfilled in life.

When some of Jesus’ disciples left after this teaching, He asked the twelve if they would leave as well. Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that You are the Holy One of God” (John 6:68-69). Faith in Jesus provides the only way to Heaven and the only satisfaction in earthly life.

Jesus had earlier fed the crowd with a few loaves and fish. After He miraculously crossed the lake, the crowd searched for and found Him. Jesus responded, “You are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you” (John 6:26-27).

Above all earthly needs, the greater needs are eternal, and Jesus stands ready to give to those who believe. As you pray for the country, pray for a great spiritual revival and that many will come to Jesus for forgiveness, abundant life on Earth, and eternal life in Heaven.

Today’s Verse:  John 6:35

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.

12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
