Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? – 1 John 5:5
Have you heard the saying, “Lose the battle, win the war”? It means that, while you may suffer a minor defeat now, you will achieve the more important victory in the future.
The struggle between truth and falsehood is constant. Overcoming the world, as today’s verse states, involves a fight against the forces opposed to spiritual truth. Those who do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God win some earthly skirmishes here but those who believe that Jesus is Lord are assured of ultimate victory. 1 John 5:4 says, “And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.” Bible commentator Jerry Vines explains, “Faith is the switch that turns on the power of Christ into our life.”
The writer of Hebrews provides a list of men and women commended for their steadfast faith. Nothing they accomplished, nothing that happened in their lives, occurred without the hand of God working through them. You can experience the same. Once the Holy Spirit has moved you to confess your sins and acknowledge the debt Jesus paid for them on your behalf, you proclaim Christ as Savior and enjoy a right relationship with God. He provides strength for any battle you face, fighting for you, conquering the enemy, and giving you the victory.
The United States continues to face spiritual battles. Pray first that you would be steadfast in believing. Then intercede for President Trump and his Cabinet to make decisions based on faith in Christ, the Overcomer.

7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, 9 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, 10 and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, 12 which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me. 13 Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14 By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.
1 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus,
