Acting ICE Director Pledges to Arrest Anyone In U.S. Illegally

He says “collateral” ICE arrest are on the rise in sanctuary cities.

Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Todd Lyons explained the reasoning behind the increase in “collateral” arrests enacted by ICE. Collateral arrests occur during an ICE raid when other people who are not the initial target are also arrested for being in the country illegally.

“What’s, again, frustrating for me is the fact that we would love to focus on these criminal aliens that are inside a jail facility,” Acting Director Lyons said, explaining that sanctuary cities do not allow ICE agents to deport immigrants already in jail. “A local law enforcement agency, state agency, already deemed that person a public safety threat and arrested them, and they’re in detention.”

“I’d much rather focus all of our limited resources on that to take them into custody, but we do have to go out into the community and make those arrests, and that’s where you are seeing (an) increase” in so-called “collateral” arrests, the acting ICE director added, referring to individuals who are not the targets of operations but who are discovered to be in the U.S. unlawfully.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Acting Director Lyons as he oversees U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
  • For God’s protection for ICE agents as they seek to remove violent criminal aliens from communities.
