President Donald Trump has given Russian President Vladimir Putin until August 8th to come to the negotiating table with a ceasefire in Ukraine, and ahead of the weekend, commented that Russia appears uncommitted to a peaceful resolution to the conflict. President Trump added, “We just don’t see any progress being made.” If Russia is unwilling to negotiate, the president said that additional sanctions could be added.
In order to expedite peace negotiations, President Trump is sending United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff to Moscow, Russia. The president hopes that negotiations are productive, but added, “We’re going to put sanctions… I don’t know that sanctions bother him. You know, they know about sanctions. I know better than anybody about sanctions and tariffs and everything else. I don’t know if that has any effect, but we’re going to do it.”
