For we walk by faith, not by sight. – 2 Corinthians 5:7
Some have called fear “faith in the devil.“ Many use the acronym “False Expectations Appear Real.“ Your brain, emotions, and bodily functions react to what it thinks is real. For example, your heart beats faster if you think you are going to have an accident, even when you are perfectly safe. This is why the object of your faith is so important. Other definition of faith could be: seeing things from God’s point of view, or believing what He says about you and the world around you.
The main way to build faith is to learn from the Word of God, the Bible. The apostle Paul says, “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). Common human fears include concerns over safety, stability, health, and eternity. Many Scriptures address these topics to build up your faith. You can renew your mind concerning any of your fears by meditating on Scripture.
The apostle Jude wrote, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life” (Jude 1:20-21). This is something you decide to practice. Another way to build up your faith is to be around other believers, singing psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, and sharing lessons and insights (Ephesians 5:19, 1 Corinthians 14:26). Commit to strengthening your faith by reading the Bible, fellowshiping with other believers, praying, and being attentive to God’s answers to prayer. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
18 But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for
“Their voice has gone out to all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world.”
