White House Responds to Ambush of Border Patrol in Texas

A House resolution to condemn anti-ICE violence was passed just days before, though most of the minority party did not support it.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector of U.S. Border Patrol reported that a lone gunman shot at some of their officers early Monday morning near a federal facility in McAllen, Texas. The Department of Homeland Security reported that a McAllen police officer, a Border Patrol agent, and a staffer were injured.

“The suspect is deceased. The incident is still under investigation. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available,” the sector stated.

The McAllen Police Department later confirmed that the suspect was identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda, a likely 27-year-old man tied to an address in Michigan. He was dressed in tactical gear and opened fire at Border Patrol officers outside of the agency’s annex facility in McAllen, Texas. Agents shot and killed Mosqueda after he shot dozens of rounds at them.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt encouraged the opposing party “to tone down their rhetoric against ICE and Border Patrol agents, who, again, are everyday men and women.”

She continued, “These are honorable Americans who are just simply trying to do their job to enforce the law. They go home to their families every night, just like we all do, and they deserve respect and dignity for trying to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and to remove public safety threats from our communities.”

The ambush was conducted after a House resolution was passed that condemned the Los Angeles riots and the anti-ICE rhetoric. All but seven members of the minority party in Congress voted against the measure.

Representative Young Kim of California stated, “Peaceful protests are a constitutional right, but vandalism, looting, violence, and other crimes are not. Protecting public safety shouldn’t be controversial.“

DHS has reported a 700 percent increase in assaults on immigration enforcement officers.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the safety of Border Patrol agents and federal immigration law enforcement as they perform their duties.
  • For politicians to tone down the inflammatory rhetoric surrounding immigration enforcement.
  • For the American people to uphold and support law and order as well as federal, state, and local agents and peace officers.
