House Passes the “One Big Beautiful Bill” after Debate

The House speaker and President Trump addressed concerns of their party holdouts to advance the bill.

The House majority passed the massive legislation to fund President Donald Trump’s agenda Thursday afternoon. The bill includes extending the president’s 2017 tax cuts and securing the southern border. The House vote to advance the bill to debate began Wednesday evening and was open for six hours as Speaker Mike Johnson and President Trump addressed the concerns of eight legislators who were hesitant to support some of the changes that were made in the Senate.

Representative Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania who voted with the minority party against the bill’s advancement on Wednesday evening, stated his concern over paused military aid to Ukraine after Russia’s recent aerial assault.

After voting against the bill, Congressman Fitzpatrick stated, “I have formally requested an emergency briefing from the White House and the Department of Defense to clarify these reports, review our nation’s weapons and munitions stockpiles, and ensure the United States remains fully committed to providing Ukraine with the resources it urgently needs to defend its people and preserve the cause of freedom.“

Once the bill came to the floor for debate, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spent several hours critiquing the legislation before the final vote.

The bill now goes to President Trump’s desk for his signature.
