Saturday, July 12

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is concluding his trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, today. In addition to attending the ASEAN-United States Post-Ministerial Conference, the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers’ Meeting this week, Secretary Rubio has met with multiple Asian leaders on the sidelines.

Trade and tariffs were the focus of many discussions as President Donald Trump recently extended the trade agreement deadline from July 9 to August 1. During the meetings, Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to advancing a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific region.

Secretary Rubio stated, “The United States is a Pacific nation – not just the mainland of the United States that faces the Pacific. … The United States is the number one source of foreign direct investment in Southeast Asia. We’re not abandoning any of that nor are we abandoning these strong bilateral ties that we have with many of these countries, some of which go back decades and decades.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Rubio as he and other U.S. diplomats discuss mutual concerns with foreign ministers.
  • For President Donald Trump and members of his trade team as they seek trade agreements with partners around the globe.
  • For the president and his advisors to seek God’s wisdom as they craft foreign and domestic policies.
