Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the closure of the United States Agency for International Development this week. The State Department has officially taken over the operations and funding disbursement previously administered by the independent agency.

Secretary Rubio said that his department would oversee and manage USAID funding more effectively. He stated, “USAID had decades and a near-infinite taxpayer budget to advance American influence, promote economic development worldwide, and allow billions to stand on their own two feet.”

However, “USAID viewed its constituency as the United Nations, multinational NGOs, and the broader global community — not the U.S. taxpayers who funded its budget or the President they elected to represent their interests on the world stage.”

Secretary Rubio explained that the State Department will be “prioritizing trade over aid, opportunity over dependency, and investment over assistance,” and that “recipients deserve to know the assistance provided to them is not a handout from an unknown NGO, but an investment from the American people.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Rubio as he and State Department officials administer USAID funding.
  • For President Donald Trump and members of his Cabinet as they seek to increase government efficiency and reduce wasteful spending and redundant bureaucracy.
  • For God’s purposes and plans to be fulfilled in the United States.
