Congress Nears Deadline to Pass President’s Agenda Legislation

President Trump urged legislators to approve it by July 4 or delay their recess.

The majority in Congress are nearing the original deadline of July 4 that was set for passing President Donald Trump’s long-awaited “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Members of the Senate are working to refine hundreds of pages of legislation before the congressional recess begins July 4. President Donald Trump urged Congress to delay the recess and continue working until the bill gets done.

“To my friends in the Senate, lock yourself in a room if you must, don’t go home, and GET THE DEAL DONE THIS WEEK,” President Trump emphasized. “Work with the House so they can pass it IMMEDIATELY. NO ONE GOES ON VACATION UNTIL IT’S DONE.”

Speaker Mike Johnson is entertaining the possibility, having informed his colleagues during a closed-door meeting Tuesday morning that they should keep their schedules flexible this weekend and early next week. He said the Senate could pass the bill “maybe by Friday, Saturday.”

“If the Senate does its work on the timeline we expect, we will do our work as well,” Speaker Johnson said. “And I think everybody’s ready for that.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senate Majority Leader Thune and House Speaker Johnson as they seek to facilitate the approval of the spending package.
  • For members of the Senate and House as they consider the legislation and determine amendments.
  • For discernment for President Trump and his administration as they prepare to implement his agenda.
