How much time do you spend thinking about the future? Many are interested in trying to predict what is about to happen and some people sound very credible in their predictions. According to the Bible, there is one test for a person claiming to speak for God: “When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken” (Deuteronomy 18:22).
God does what He says, and Biblical history confirms it. For example, in approximately 700 BC, the prophet Micah revealed the name of the small village of Bethlehem as the place the Messiah would be born. Jesus’ birth there is a widely known fact. Sometime before 500 BC, the prophet Daniel said Israel’s Messiah would begin his public ministry 483 years after the decree to rebuild Jerusalem. Jesus’ work meets that criteria as well. In fifth century BC, Zachariah declared the Messiah would be betrayed for the price of a common slave, 30 pieces of silver according to Jewish Law. Judas settled for that very price.
God’s design for restoring humankind into full relationship with Himself is on schedule. Any person who has accepted God’s plan for salvation through Jesus Christ has reason for hope and confidence. Time is moving forward and there is a day approaching when Earth’s story will be complete, making all decisions final.
Pray today for those who have been reluctant to turn their lives over to God. Ask that many in public office across the United States will come to know the Lord personally while the opportunity lasts.
