Rodney Scott
Commissioner, Customs and Border Protection
Rodney S. Scott earned a pilot’s certificate from Cochise College and worked as a commercial pilot prior to attending and graduating from the U.S. Border Patrol Academy and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Leadership Institute. He later graduated from the Naval Post Graduate School Executive Leaders program as well.
Scott worked his way up through the ranks of the U.S. Border Patrol, eventually becoming the Border Patrol chief. He eventually served at the CBP headquarters in Washington, D.C. One of his roles was Assistant Chief within the Office of the Commissioner, Office of Anti-terrorism, and later Deputy Executive Director of that office. He then served as Director of the U.S Customs and Border Protection, Incident Management and Operations Coordination Division. He became sector deputy chief and then chief patrol agent before serving as Acting Deputy Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol. He was then promoted to Chief of U.S. Border Patrol in 2020.
President Donald Trump nominated Scott to be CBP commissioner. The Senate confirmed him in June and he was sworn into office the following day.
In the News…
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott issued a memo after the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities regarding the possible activation of Iranian sleeper cells in the United States and urging CBP personnel to “be vigilant.“
Commissioner Scott stated that “thousands of Iranian nationals have been documented entering the United States illegally and countless more were likely in the known and unknown got-a-ways.”
As the Departments of State and Homeland Security issued elevated warnings and alerts, the CBP commissioner wrote, “Though we have not received any specific credible threats to share with you all currently, the threat of sleeper cells or sympathizers acting on their own, or at the behest of Iran has never been higher.“
The agency’s numbers do not include estimates of those admitted into the country through the administration’s parole programs or those who evade capture.
