Consider Your Ways

God says to put first things first.

Haggai 1:5 – Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways.

The message the Lord delivered through the prophet Haggai was to put God first.

The people had drifted into a way of life where they intellectually assented to the sovereignty of God but their way of life did not reflect their belief. They gave lip service to His supremacy, but their lives were filled with other priorities. Haggai was sent by the Lord to urge the Lord’s people to get their priorities in line with what they should be. The little phrase, “Consider your ways,” is used multiple times by Haggai.

Jesus said it this way, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” He wants you to put first things first.

Life moves on. You work, you raise a family, you sometimes engage n the Lord’s work. You’re not rebellious—your just not God-centric. Keep your priorities straight. As Micah 6:8 says, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Pray With Us

Righteous Father, Thank You for reminding me that I have a tendency to get my priorities skewed. It is so easy to get caught up in earning a living, raising a family, even doing what I can in service to You. Forgive me for setting wrong priorities. I want to keep my focus on You and the things You require of me. Guide and direct me through Your Word, I ask in Jesus Name,

Amen.
